Florida Bill Targets Ticket Resale

The Florida House of Representatives is currently reviewing a bill intended to put a damper on ticket re-sales. HB1287, given a favorable vote by the Agriculture & Natural Resources Policy Committee and placed on the Public Safety & Domestic Security Policy Committee's agenda for 3/24/09, contains three parts:

    - restricts resale of event tickets by or benefiting tax-exempt charitable organizations,
    - allows charitable organizations acting as the original ticket issuer or seller to prohibit ticket purchases for resale or to require contractual agreements with ticket resellers, and
    - assesses a civil penalty for illegal ticket sales equal to treble the amount of the resale price.

Members interested in expressing their opinions about the bill proposal should contact their elected state officials.
